Some of Hong Kong's leading classical musicians will perform at a concert on December 22 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to raise funds for the family of firefighter Ho Wai-ho, who died in the Tai Po fire. Titled 'Salute to the Brave, Soothing the Soul', the event is co-organised by violinist and conductor Leung Kin-fung. All ticket proceeds will support the family.
The Tai Po fire broke out on November 26 at Wang Fuk Court, killing at least 160 people, injuring 79, and displacing nearly 5,000 residents. Among the victims was firefighter Ho Wai-ho, whose family now faces significant hardship. In response, prominent figures in Hong Kong's classical music scene have organised a benefit concert to provide support.
Scheduled for December 22 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, the concert features ticket prices ranging from HK$100 to HK$400, with all proceeds going directly to Ho's family. Co-organiser Leung Kin-fung, first associate concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, said: 'When words fail, music speaks.' Titled 'Salute to the Brave, Soothing the Soul', the event will showcase top talents in Hong Kong's classical music, including pianist Chan Wing-wah and flautist Nancy Loo, aiming to offer solace through melody and honour frontline heroes.
The fire's investigation continues, with police psychologist Michael Fung Ho-kin noting that frontline officers have shown resilience amid prolonged operations and media exposure, though mental health support remains essential. The concert not only offers financial aid but also embodies community solidarity and respect for the fallen.
