Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. posted robust sales growth in India during the first five months of the year, driven by strong demand for their sport utility vehicles. Hyundai sales rose 10.1 percent and Kia sales increased 14.6 percent.
Hyundai Motor sold 266,317 passenger vehicles in India from January to May. Combined sales for the two companies reached 405,514 units, an 11.6 percent increase from a year earlier.
Hyundai ranked fourth in the Indian passenger vehicle market behind Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. Kia placed sixth, behind Toyota.
Hyundai's Creta and Venue SUVs accounted for more than half of its sales. At Kia, the Seltos and Sonet made up 76.3 percent of sales. The data came from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
