Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has called on officers to plan deliberately for life after service. He spoke at the Gallant Officers Recognition and Welfare Initiative 2026. The event focused on welfare and opportunities beyond active duty.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu addressed the Gallant Officers Recognition and Welfare Initiative 2026 on 29 June. He stated that retirement should mark the beginning of another purposeful phase of life. Officers were advised to develop skills, pursue education and practise financial discipline.
Dr Victoria Ekhomu highlighted financial, psychological, health and family challenges faced by retirees. She urged officers to spend less than they earn and build networks for second careers. Retired Deputy Inspector-General Sylvester Abiodun Alabi warned against fraudulent investment schemes that target pension payouts.
The event also honoured the late former IGP Solomon Ehigiator Arase and security expert Dr Ona Ekhomu. Cash support and awards were given to retired officers from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Vanguard Deputy Crime Editor Evelyn Usman received the Excellence in Crime Reporting Award.
