Anthony Duclair scored twice to lead the New York Islanders to a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, extending Vancouver's losing streak to 11 games. The win improves New York's road record on their current trip, while the Canucks continue to struggle at home. Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves in net for the Islanders.
The New York Islanders handed the Vancouver Canucks their 11th consecutive loss with a 4-3 win at Rogers Arena on January 19, 2026. New York, sitting at 27-17-5, improved to 3-2-1 on their seven-game road trip, which concludes against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday.
Vancouver struck first at 2:49 of the opening period when Max Sasson scored on a one-timer from the right hash marks, assisted by Nils Hoglander and Linus Karlsson after a turnover. Anthony Duclair tied the game at 10:11 with a wrist shot from the right circle, set up by a backhand pass from Tony DeAngelo. Evander Kane put the Canucks back ahead 2-1 at 14:48, redirecting Elias Pettersson's shot from the point.
A potential tying goal by Matthew Schaefer at 17:45 was overturned on an offside challenge. In the second period, Duclair evened it at 2-2 on a power play at 14:34, one-timing a pass from Calum Ritchie from the left circle. Ryan Pulock gave New York the lead at 15:58, skating unchecked to the top of the circles for a shot over Kevin Lankinen's blocker, assisted by Schaefer.
The Islanders failed to capitalize on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third, but DeAngelo extended the lead to 4-2 at 10:15 by converting a rebound in the left circle. Drew O'Connor pulled Vancouver within one at 18:09 on a deflection with Lankinen pulled for an extra attacker.
Sorokin stopped 29 shots for the win, while Lankinen made 28 saves in defeat. Duclair, playing on the top line with Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee, has seven goals in his last seven games after four in his first 39. "Feel good," Duclair said. "Obviously, playing with some really good players."
New York coach Patrick Roy called it "an important win." Vancouver's Adam Foote expressed frustration: "I’ve been watching this for too long. We’ve got to stop burning ourselves by getting frustrated." The Canucks are 0-9-2 in their last 11 and 4-14-3 at home.
Notes: Schaefer's two assists contribute to his 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 49 games, tying an Islanders record for an 18-year-old. Hoglander's assist was his first point in 14 games.
