Italo plans entry into German long-distance rail market from 2028

The Italian railway company Italo plans to enter the German long-distance rail market starting in spring 2028. The move comes amid delays, poor service and high prices at Deutsche Bahn.

Italo sees a market gap created by Deutsche Bahn's weaknesses. The company intends to offer long-distance services in Germany from spring 2028 onwards.

The announcement was made on 7 July 2026. No details on routes or prices have been released yet.

It remains to be seen how the market entry will affect competition.
