JSC shortlists 100 candidates for high court judge positions

The Judicial Service Commission has shortlisted 100 candidates, including former Nyeri Woman Representative Priscilla Nyokabi, for appointment as High Court judges. This follows a recruitment drive that received 377 applications for 20 vacancies. The commission will conduct interviews and assessments next.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced on October 24, 2025, that it has shortlisted 100 candidates for the position of High Court Judge after reviewing 377 applications received by the July 7, 2025, deadline. The recruitment was for 20 vacancies in the Office of the Judge of the High Court of Kenya.

Among the shortlisted is Priscilla Nyokabi, who served as Nyeri's first Woman Representative for one term before losing her seat in the 2018 General Elections. Other candidates include serving magistrates such as Chief Magistrates David Wanjohi, Lucas Onyina, Nathan Shiundu Lutta, Letizia Muthoni Wachira Rwiga, Esther Boke, Harrison Onwimba Barasa, and Alex Kimanzi Ithuku.

In its statement, the JSC explained: “Upon reviewing all submissions for completeness and compliance with the eligibility criteria outlined in the advertisement, the Commission shortlisted 100 candidates for further consideration for appointment as Judges of the High Court.”

The shortlisted candidates will proceed to interviews and other assessments as per JSC procedures, with the interview schedule to be communicated later. The commission has invited the public to submit any relevant information about the candidates in writing to the Secretary JSC, assuring confidentiality. It added: "Members of the public are invited to avail in writing of information of interest," and noted that submitters may be interviewed.

This nationwide process aims to fill judicial vacancies and strengthen Kenya's judiciary.
