Karolinska University Hospital must release an undocumented patient's phone number to police following a ruling by the highest court.
The Supreme Administrative Court issued its ruling on 25 June. Police appealed after the hospital refused to release the details about the man, who is being treated for a life-threatening contagious disease.
The man is in Sweden illegally and is to be deported. The court ruled that a phone number is not a sensitive personal data point and that police need it for law enforcement work.
The decision cannot be appealed and sets a precedent.
