Katseye debuts blonde makeovers for Coachella performance

The K-pop group Katseye has undergone a collective blonde hair makeover ahead of their Coachella set this Friday. The five members—Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Yoonchae Jeung, and Sophia Laforteza—revealed the changes during rehearsals in Los Angeles. They are also preparing a revamped performance and new single for the Sahara Stage.

Katseye's members have been rehearsing intensely in a Los Angeles dance studio, with days running from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Daniela Avanzini said the performance will feature new elements and be 'very different' from past shows. The group aims for perfection ahead of their slot on the Sahara Stage at Coachella this Friday night, as first reported by Vogue in an interview conducted remotely from the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Technical glitches delayed the start of the video call by 15 minutes, but the band members appeared relaxed on a couch in black-and-white dance gear once connected. Yoonchae Jeung led the makeover, going fully blonde after convincing the creative team, including director Humberto Leon and visual director João Moraes. She drew inspiration from a Pinterest photo, opting for a golden shade with yellow tones. Lara Raj added Y2K-style blonde highlights reminiscent of Christina Aguilera's 'Dirrty' era, keeping black hair around her face for an edgy look. Megan Skiendiel's style mimicked Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu's shine lines, shaped by hand into an S-curve by celebrity hairstylist George Papanikolas, who is also Matrix's global artist. Sophia Laforteza chose platinum extensions for a dip-dye effect over her darkened natural hair, likening it to a Hannah Montana transformation, while Avanzini added subtle platinum money pieces to her curly dark hair. Papanikolas prioritized hair health amid the lightening process, providing each member with Matrix Build-A-Bond masks for weekly use to handle performance stresses like hair choreography. Jeung noted bleaching her eyebrows made her look unfamiliar without makeup. The changes tie into Katseye's third era, following 'SIS' and 'Beautiful Chaos,' with their new comeback single 'Pinky Up.'
