The Corruption Eradication Commission caught Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani and four others in a sting operation in the Soloraya area of Central Java on Friday.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the team secured five people including the regent. The suspects underwent initial examination at Polresta Surakarta before being taken to Jakarta for further examination.
The case involves alleged extortion by the Sukoharjo regent against local officials in Sukoharjo Regency. The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine their status under the Criminal Procedure Code.
KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed that this operation was the KPK's 16th sting operation in 2026.
