Leandro Paredes suffered a tear in his right hamstring and was ruled out of Argentina's friendlies against Honduras and Iceland. The Boca midfielder was part of the 26-player squad selected by Lionel Scaloni for the 2026 World Cup.
The injury occurred during Boca's Copa Libertadores match against Universidad Católica. Paredes acknowledged he had been carrying a muscle overload and then-coach Claudio Úbeda confirmed the player felt discomfort but chose to continue.
Subsequent tests confirmed a tear that will keep him off the pitch for the next few weeks. Argentina will play the friendlies on June 6 against Honduras in Texas and on June 9 against Iceland in Alabama.
The World Cup debut is scheduled for June 16 against Algeria in Kansas. Paredes joins other players with physical issues including Lionel Messi, Cristian Romero and Emiliano Martínez.
