Colombia's Liberal Party formally inscribed four candidates for the House of Representatives from Huila in a crowded event in Neiva. Current representative Flora Perdomo aims to retain her seat, joined by Franky Vega, Rodrigo Amaya Culma, and Mireya Bravo. The party seeks to hold its current position and secure an extra one in the elections.
In a packed room at the National Registry in Neiva, Colombia's Liberal Party inscribed its four candidates for the House of Representatives from Huila, launching their bid to defend the current seat and aim for an additional one. The lead candidate, Flora Perdomo Andrade, has held the position for nearly 12 years and secured 37,797 votes in the 2022 elections per the E-26 form, allowing her to retain it. During the current term, Perdomo has supported some initiatives from President Gustavo Petro's government, including the controversial health reform, without acting as an opponent.
Franky Alexander Vega Murcia, former councilor and mayoral candidate from Pitalito, targets votes from southern Huila and has backing from Conservative Party members, whom he previously joined. In the 2023 regional elections, Vega garnered 22,887 votes, earning a council seat under the opposition statute.
Rodrigo Amaya Culma, from Garzón and a former deputy for Cambio Radical, will compete with support from the department's center. His credential was stripped due to irregularities in the 2019 regional elections. Mireya Bravo, with experience in the Huila Health Secretariat and the People's Defender Office in Huila and Bogotá, highlights her community service.
The candidates did not disclose Senate endorsements, though Perdomo met recently with María Villalba, daughter of Governor Rodrigo Villalba, who inscribed with the New Liberalism. In talks with LA NACIÓN, they shared their reasons for seeking Congress.
