Magic: The Gathering's Lorwyn Eclipsed marks the first expansion of 2026, set for release just two weeks after the initial reveals. On January 5, 2026, at 1:13 PM PST, GameSpot reported on the livestream event where Wizards of the Coast showcased multiple cards, mechanics, and special treatments from the set.
Lorwyn Eclipsed revisits the dual planes of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, previously divided by light and darkness but now merged to produce novel creatures and spells. The reveals included familiar faces like the mischievous elven sorcerer Oko in variants such as Oko, Lorwyn Liege and Oko, Shadowmoor Scion, alongside new characters like Abigale, Eloquent First-Year, a Strixhaven student.
Highlights from the livestream featured cards like Curious Colossus, Flock Impostor, Kinbinding, and Rhys, the Evermore, with variants including Fable Frame, Extended Art, Borderless, and Anime Showcase treatments. A mini bonus sheet offered Special Guest reprints from Magic's history, such as Bitterblossom, Devoted Druid, and Door of Destinies.
The event included a short music video titled One Light, One Dark: A Boggart Ballad, depicting two boggarts—one from Lorwyn and one from Shadowmoor—using puppets created in partnership with the Jim Henson company.
Additional previews are scheduled through January 9, 2026. Prerelease events begin January 16, followed by the full launch on January 23 at local game stores and big box retailers. Full-art basic lands reflecting Lorwyn and Shadowmoor themes were also revealed, including variants for Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest.
