The Motorists Association of Kenya has called for a full audit of the fuel pricing formula following the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority's announcement of new pump prices.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority announced on June 14 that maximum retail prices for the period from June 15 to July 14 would see Super Petrol decrease by Ksh0.22 per litre to Ksh214.03 in Nairobi. Diesel would drop by Ksh10 per litre to Ksh222.86 while kerosene stays at Ksh191.38 per litre.
The Motorists Association of Kenya issued a statement hours later expressing disappointment with the adjustments. It said the petrol reduction was a token amount and accused the regulator of using opaque political negotiations for the diesel cut instead of the official formula.
MAK called for Parliament to scrutinise EPRA's independence and demanded disclosure of all calculations used in the review. It also urged the return of the previous Energy Regulatory Authority body.
