Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard condemns Russia's nighttime attacks on Ukraine that killed 13 people and injured around 80. She calls for sharply increased sanctions and more support for Ukraine.
On the night of July 2 Russia carried out large-scale attacks on Ukraine. Maria Malmer Stenergard described the events as terrible and stressed the need for continued Swedish support.
Sweden has contributed 155 billion kronor since the 2022 invasion, most of it in military aid. The government recently decided to deliver sixteen JAS Gripen aircraft to Ukraine.
The foreign minister proposes that the EU ban ships carrying Russian energy from calling at European ports. She wants to see one hundred new sanctions packages because existing measures work but Russia keeps finding ways around them.
Mediterranean countries have shown reluctance toward the proposal and prefer to wait for G7 decisions. Malmer Stenergard stressed that Europe has no time to wait.
