Man accused of shooting ex-girlfriend while collecting belongings in Las Vegas

A 33-year-old man faces a murder charge after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in her Las Vegas apartment moments after she called 911 to report him threatening her with a gun. Police responded to the domestic disturbance and found the victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect was later arrested without incident.

Jorge Garcia, 33, was arrested earlier this week and charged with one count of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the death of his ex-girlfriend, a woman in her mid-30s, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred at a residence in the 8900 block of South Durango Drive. At 3:28 p.m. on Tuesday, the woman called 911, telling the dispatcher that her ex-boyfriend was at her apartment to pick up his property and was threatening her with a firearm. The call disconnected shortly after, with the operator overhearing the confrontation escalate into an argument between the former couple, who had previously lived together. Officers arrived, received no answer at the door, and one looked through a window. 'Officers looked inside the window and seen a female lying unresponsive,' LVMPD Lt. Robert Price said during a news briefing. 'Those officers immediately made entry into that apartment and observed a female lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.' First responders pronounced her dead at the scene. The suspect had fled, but investigators identified Garcia and took him into custody without incident. He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center. Price stated that Garcia pulled out a firearm while 'collecting his things,' threatened the woman, and then shot her. Garcia made his initial court appearance and remains in custody without bond. The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity, cause, and manner of death after notifying next of kin.
