Police in Oita City re-arrested Tadafumi Himeno, 58, whose occupation is unknown, on suspicion of killing the 18-year-old girl in March. He was initially arrested on April 12 for abandoning her body on a cliff in a mountainous area of Bungo-Ono City, near the Miyazaki Prefecture border, according to Oita Broadcasting Corp.
The girl's family filed a missing person's report on March 4 after she left home at 11:30 p.m. on March 2. After his initial arrest, Himeno admitted to disposing of the body and made statements hinting at the killing.
Police quoted Himeno as saying he met the girl on a social media site and they had met several times. He claimed he killed her impulsively with a knife at his home following a dispute, then threw the weapon and her smartphone into the sea. Himeno was charged with murder on Saturday.
