Daniil Medvedev overcame an early setback and a rain delay to defeat Martin Landaluce 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the Italian Open quarterfinals. The win sends the World No. 9 into the semifinals for the second time in Rome.
The match lasted two hours and 22 minutes and featured a 14-minute rain interruption during the second set. Medvedev trailed 1-6 after the first set but leveled the contest by claiming the second. In the deciding set he produced a standout backhand return winner to break serve and shift momentum at 3-3.
