Introduced in the season 3 premiere, Michael J. Fox's Gerry meets Paul (Harrison Ford) in a doctor's waiting room. Both living with Parkinson's, they bond over their shared experiences, with Gerry inquiring about hallucinations. Gerry soon manifests as Paul's first hallucination, eating cake in his kitchen.
Gerry reappears as a real patient in episode 4, 'The Field,' where therapist Gaby (Jessica Williams) and Jimmy (Jason Segel) interact with him. In episode 7, 'I Will Be Grape,' he chats with Raymond (Neil Flynn), reinforcing his occasional physical presence.
Whether real or imagined, Gerry's interactions poignantly illustrate the daily struggles, symptoms, and psychological toll of Parkinson's through humor and insight. Fox, who has lived with the disease since 1991, embraced the limited but impactful role to raise awareness.
