Democratic senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed told supporters at a campaign event that he struggles to answer whether Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state.
El-Sayed made the comments at a “Jews for Abdul” event in Pontiac, Michigan, last week. In leaked audio obtained by Jewish Insider, he said he often struggles with the question because it forces a definition of what a Jewish state means. He added that those asking should explain how their view aligns with liberal values in the United States.
