The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has expelled Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and Nhlamulo Ndhlela with immediate effect after unauthorised statements and actions that undermined party unity.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party announced the expulsions on 18 June during a press conference in Cedarwoods, Johannesburg. Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo said the pair had made public statements and taken actions that conflicted with members’ constitutional obligations and undermined organisational discipline.
Nomvalo cited repeated social media posts by Zuma-Sambudla that promoted factionalism, an unauthorised media briefing by Ndhlela in May, and their involvement in events around the death of MP Mzikayise Ntshingila on 4 June. The two had transferred the ailing MP to a medical facility without his family’s knowledge and defied orders to stay away from his funeral.
Nomvalo stated that the expulsions aim to counter perceptions that the party is a “family stokvel”. During the same conference he confirmed the party’s support for the 30 June protests against illegal immigration while urging participants to remain peaceful and lawful.
