Mónica del Carmen discusses her role in Las locuras

Mexican actress Mónica del Carmen plays Rita in the film Las locuras, directed by Rodrigo García and premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival. The role was created specifically for her, marking a significant gift in her career. The movie, now on Netflix, delves into social themes through six stories.

Rodrigo García reached out directly to Mónica del Carmen to offer her the role of Rita in Las locuras, a character crafted exclusively for her. "The idea that a character was thought out expressly for her was a great gift," the actress stated. This performance demanded a different approach due to the scenes involved.

Rita's story tackles a modern issue: more people are choosing pets as their primary companions for the unconditional love they provide. The film, an anthology of six tales, features other narratives with actresses like Cassandra Ciangherotti, Ángeles Cruz, Nailea Norvind, Ilse Salas, Adriana Barraza, and Luisa Huertas, each highlighting key societal aspects. Las locuras conveys various messages through these plots.

The movie premiered successfully at the Morelia International Film Festival and is now available on Netflix, as well as in some independent theaters. It is also preselected to represent Mexico at the Goya and Oscar awards.

Mónica del Carmen is enjoying a strong phase in her career. Recently, she starred in Las mutaciones with Tony Dalton, directed by Jorge Ramírez Suárez, filmed over a year ago. The story depicts the touching bond between Elodia, a domestic worker, and a lawyer with aggressive tongue cancer. This year, she has worked on three films, two short films, and a comedy series in Spain, demonstrating her range across cinema and television.
