Solomon Akwashiki, a Nasarawa State lawmaker, urged voters to reject religious and ethnic politics ahead of the 2027 elections during a meeting in Lafia on Tuesday.
Solomon Akwashiki, who represents Lafia Central Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, made the call on Tuesday at his office in Lafia. He is the Social Democratic Party candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency.
Akwashiki said elections should focus on competence and merit. “Elections should be about competence and merit, devoid of primordial sentiments,” he stated. He called on constituents and Nigerians to reject religious and ethnic politics so competent leaders can emerge.
The lawmaker noted that he has executed various projects with direct impact on constituents over three years in office. He assured voters of more empowerment programmes and people-oriented projects if elected to the National Assembly.
Akwashiki hosted officials from several groups in Lafia Local Government Area, including the Youth Forum of Ungwan Sarkin Fada and the Voice of Mankwal Development Association. The groups expressed support for his initiatives and urged continued peace and tolerance across political, religious and ethnic lines.
