Novak Djokovic apologized to a ball girl after playing a prank on her during his Wimbledon second-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The incident occurred during a changeover after the second set on July 1.
Djokovic asked the ball girl to cut a tag from his shirt with scissors. He then jumped back suddenly as if she had cut him, causing her brief panic before he smiled to reveal it was a joke.
In his on-court interview after the match, Djokovic said he was sorry if he scared her. "It was probably a Yeah, not that great of a joke, I guess," he added while noting the lead helped put him in a playful mood.
Djokovic won the match with 33 winners and just 7 unforced errors while saving all five break points faced. He will next face Arthur Rinderknech in the third round.
