Emiliano García-Page harshly criticized Pedro Sánchez during the PSOE Federal Committee held this Saturday in Madrid for the lack of self-criticism over corruption cases and poor electoral results.
The president of Castilla-La Mancha demanded that the PSOE secretary general call early general elections or submit a confidence vote. Page stated that "things are worse than a year ago" and that "this is the most serious moment for the socialist party in recent history".
Pedro Sánchez responded directly to the calls for early elections. "Abandon all hope," the president said, adding: "We will clean up whatever needs cleaning and we will continue governing".
Page also called for legal action against Leire Díez and lamented the absence of self-criticism regarding results in the last regional elections. Sánchez rejected equating corruption cases with systemic problems and defended that "we are not all the same".
Ministers such as Óscar López and María Jesús Montero backed Sánchez, while the mayor of Palencia, Miriam Andrés, joined Page’s criticisms.
