Palestinian filmmaker Dima Youssef Hasan Yasin was held overnight at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle detention center before being allowed to attend the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday afternoon.
Invited by the Palestinian Film Institute, Dima Youssef Hasan Yasin was denied entry to France on Friday 15 May upon arrival at Roissy due to a visa anomaly. Threatened with expulsion, she spent the night in detention.
The situation was resolved Saturday afternoon after Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot was directly contacted. European MP Mounir Satouri described the incident as a “misunderstanding” and questioned the Quai d’Orsay.
Marine Tondelier, national secretary of Les Écologistes and 2027 presidential candidate, also reacted on X, calling it an “error” and urging Emmanuel Macron and Jean-Noël Barrot to intervene.
