The Paris court acquitted Nicolas G., 48, on June 16 of charges of sexual harassment and assault on several young girls. Parents have called for a mobilization this Thursday in the 7th arrondissement and in Montreuil.
The Paris criminal court’s decision has caused bewilderment among the families. Barka Zerouali, spokesperson for the #MeTooEcole collective, said: “Clearly, justice is not on the side of the little victims!” She added that several young girls had described being touched and questioned the message sent to children who speak out.
The #MeTooEcole and SOS Périscolaire collectives are calling on parents to gather this Thursday. The demonstration is planned in Paris’s 7th arrondissement and in Montreuil.
The acquittal comes as LR senator Agnès Evren begins hearings for a national inquiry commission on violence in after-school programs. Paris’s new mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, is devoting a significant share of his time to the issue.
