Patriotic Alliance retains Malmesbury Ward 11 after by-election

The Patriotic Alliance has retained Ward 11 in Malmesbury following a by-election held on 10 June at the Swartland Local Municipality in the Western Cape. The party secured 53.26 percent of the vote and elected Raymond Ricardo Mains as the new councillor.

Four candidates from the African National Congress, Democratic Alliance, Patriotic Alliance and the Truth and Solidarity Movement contested the election. Provincial Electoral Officer Michael Hendrickse reported an overall voter turnout of just over 58 percent.

The Patriotic Alliance won with 53 percent of the vote, ahead of the Democratic Alliance on 42 percent and the African National Congress on 4 percent. This result marks an increased majority compared with the party's performance in the 2024 by-election.

The ward covers the Wesbank area west of Malmesbury town centre. The by-election followed the resignation of the previous ward councillor.
