Pima County sheriff's department featured in new A&E series

The Pima County Sheriff's Department will be spotlighted in a new reality television series on A&E. Titled Desert Law, the 10-episode limited series follows patrol deputies in southern Arizona and premieres on January 7. The show aims to highlight the challenges and impacts of law enforcement work.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) is set to appear in "Desert Law," a 10-episode limited series airing on A&E starting January 7. Filmed during the spring and summer of 2025, the reality program documents the daily lives of patrol deputies as they respond to various calls across southern Arizona.

In a statement, PCSD emphasized the series' potential to address recruitment issues in law enforcement: "As law enforcement agencies nationwide continue to face recruitment challenges, PCSD hopes the series will provide transparency into the profession and inspire the next generation of deputies by showing the meaningful impact of a career in public service."

This project coincides with another Arizona sheriff's department gaining screen time. On the same premiere date, Netflix will release the next season of "Unlocked: A Jail Experiment," filmed at the Pinal County Sheriff's Office in Florence. That series explores a six-week experiment where inmates govern themselves within the jail.

Arizona has a history of featuring its law enforcement in television. Previous productions include "60 Days In," which was shot at the Florence facility and involved civilians posing as inmates, and "Live PD," which has showcased the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

The dual series underscore ongoing interest in real-life policing narratives, potentially shedding light on operational realities amid national discussions on public safety and agency staffing.
