Police arrest suspect in Venezuelan man's homicide in Estación Central

Chile's PDI police arrested a 22-year-old man linked to the February killing of a Venezuelan citizen in Estación Central. The incident stemmed from a brawl following an attempted robbery. The suspect will face detention review in a Santiago court.

On Monday, officers from the PDI's North Central Homicide Brigade arrested a 22-year-old man for his involvement in the homicide of a Venezuelan citizen that took place in February in Santiago's Estación Central commune.

The event occurred in the early hours of February 28 on Taitao Street. Investigations revealed that the victim had attempted to rob a woman who was the suspect's partner. Upon learning of this, the man went looking for him, leading to a public altercation in which he fatally stabbed the Venezuelan in the thorax with a sharp weapon.

Inspector Piero Rosales from the BH North Central stated: “During the development of the investigative process, it was established that minutes before his death, the victim had attempted to rob the suspect's partner, who, upon learning of the incident, went to search for him in the surrounding area.” Rosales noted that once located, the fatal fight ensued in the public street.

Following the arrest, detectives secured a search warrant for the suspect's home, where they found the clothing he wore during the incident. This discovery bolsters the case against him.

The suspect will be brought before Santiago's 6th Guarantee Court for his detention hearing, highlighting ongoing urban tensions in Chile's capital.
