Lagos Police Command has started a manhunt for gunmen who killed National Union of Road Transport Workers organising secretary Toba Ajiboye along Ikorodu Road.
Ajiboye, also known as Toba Ijaya, was attacked while returning from Fadeyi. Gunmen shot at his white car, which sustained multiple bullet holes. He was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos Island, where he was pronounced dead.
Confusion arose at the hospital on Tuesday when transporters blocked police from recovering the body. State police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said investigations are ongoing and personnel have been deployed to prevent disorder.
Lagos NURTW chairman Mustapha Adekunle expressed grief, calling Ajiboye a loyal ally and pillar of TeamSego. He said the loss of such commitment would be deeply felt.
Reports of panic in Mushin, Yaba and Fadeyi circulated, but police stated there was no confirmed shooting there and urged calm.
