PP and PSOE voted against a Podemos amendment to remove reduction coefficients for early retirees with over 40 years of contributions. The measure would have affected nearly 900,000 pensioners and cost more than 3.3 billion euros.
Congress rejected the Podemos amendment on Thursday. Both PP and PSOE voted against it, while Sumar, Junts, UPN and Coalición Canaria backed the proposal.
The PSOE had supported a similar motion last November but argued the change would cost more than 3.3 billion euros. Those affected called the socialist vote hypocritical and announced an aggressive campaign against the party.
The PP also opposed the measure, unlike its abstention in November. Vox chose to abstain. Podemos secretary general Ione Belarra criticized the decision: "The PP and the PSOE vote against retirees who have contributed for more than 40 years being able to receive their full pension."
