As 2025 ended, President William Ruto's government unveiled several high-profile projects across key economic sectors. These initiatives reflect the administration's agenda to drive economic growth, enhance connectivity, and generate jobs under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. The president views them as major achievements ahead of the 2027 elections.
The year 2025 concluded with President Ruto launching several flagship projects. A key initiative was the 750-kilometer Mandera-Wajir-Garissa-Isiolo Highway, officially started on February 7, 2025, as part of the LAPSSET Corridor. The road is set for completion in two and a half years, with the first 195-kilometer phase from Isiolo to Modogashe beginning in May 2025 and finishing early 2026. The World Bank provided Ksh 81 billion initially.
Another project, the Ksh 170 billion Mau Summit Road, was unveiled on November 28, 2025, using a public-private partnership model. It includes the 175-kilometer Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit section and 58-kilometer Nairobi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha route, due by 2028, featuring dedicated truck lanes and intelligent transport systems to ease traffic to regional neighbors like Uganda and Rwanda.
The Ksh 50 billion Nairobi River Regeneration Programme launched March 10, 2025, aims to revive the Nairobi, Ngong, and Mathare rivers by 2027. It will halt illegal dumping and sewage, prevent flooding, and add recreational spaces with affordable housing, including a 60km trunk sewer and Kariobangi facility expansion.
On affordable housing, Ruto handed over 1,080 units in New Mukuru on May 20, 2025, and commissioned 5,616 on December 1. Other launches include Makasembo in Kisumu for 9,100 units (May 2025), Awendo in Migori for 292 units (August 2025), 10,000 units in Machakos (October 2025), and Shauri Moyo 'A' in Nairobi for 1,848 units (October 2025).
Finally, the Ksh 50 billion Konza Technopolis Phase 1, launched in October 2025, features 40 kilometers of smart roads, 170 kilometers of water systems, a 120MW substation, and an AI operations center, supported by partners from Italy, South Korea, China, and the United States.
