Several political party cadres in Sarmi Regency, Papua, have joined the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). PSI Papua chairman Joan Henri revealed this during a regional coordination meeting and leadership inauguration on May 6, 2026, in Jayapura.
Joan Henri stated that the cadre shifts came from multiple parties, including NasDem. The main reason was the absence of political dowry practices within PSI, as demonstrated in the 2024 general election and regional polls.
PSI chairman Kaesang Pangarep also attended the event. He mentioned plans to bring former President Joko Widodo to Papua following recent communication with him.
Kaesang highlighted the strong militancy of PSI cadres in Papua and expressed optimism about the party's chances of victory in 2029. The gathering formed part of internal consolidation efforts to strengthen the organization in eastern Indonesia.
