PSSI has appointed David Nascimento as head coach of the Indonesia U-17 national team, replacing Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto. The Portuguese coach will lead the Garuda Muda squad starting with friendlies against Malaysia.
The announcement came after Indonesia failed to reach the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup following elimination in the group stage of the 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup. Nascimento will make his debut by leading two friendlies against Malaysia U-17 at Manahan Stadium in Solo on 4 and 7 July 2026.
In the new coaching staff, Nascimento is assisted by Ahmad Bustomi and Simon Tahamata. Muhamad Alimudin serves as fitness coach, Taufik Nur Hidayat as video analyst, and Arief Priyandhi as goalkeeper coach.
PSSI National Team Board chairman Sumardji confirmed that preparations begin under the new coach. Nascimento, born 16 March 1966 in Cape Verde, previously played in the Dutch league and worked with Louis van Gaal.
