US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrives in Kolkata on Saturday morning for a four-day visit to India, set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi later in the day and attend the Quad Foreign Ministers meeting on May 26.
Rubio lands in Kolkata around 7 am on May 23, 2026, before traveling to New Delhi by afternoon. He is expected to meet Modi around 2 pm and attend an event at the US embassy.
On May 24, Rubio will hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and attend US Independence Day celebrations. He plans to visit Agra and Jaipur on May 25 before returning to Delhi for the Quad meeting.
The US State Department said Rubio will discuss energy security, trade and defense cooperation. Rubio stated ahead of the trip that the US wants to sell as much energy as India is willing to buy.
The visit aims to strengthen India-US ties in areas including energy, trade and critical technology following recent strains in relations.
