AS Saint-Étienne eliminated Rodez on Friday evening via penalties (0-0, 7-6) in the second round of the Ligue 2 playoffs. The Greens will contest a decisive match against Ligue 1’s 16th-placed team between 21 and 24 May.
After a match they dominated but could not convert, Saint-Étienne needed a penalty shootout to advance at Geoffroy-Guichard. Substitute goalkeeper Brice Maubleu saved four Rodez attempts and secured a 7-6 victory.
Rodez, unbeaten since 7 November, saw its run end against a technically limited Saint-Étienne side. Quentin Braat had stopped three opposing penalties.
ASSE will face Nice, Auxerre or Le Havre in a two-legged playoff, with the return leg played away.
