Sasikala slams DMK and AIADMK freebies for burdening Tamil Nadu with debt

V.K. Sasikala, leader of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam-linked All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, criticised DMK and AIADMK on Friday for promising freebies amid Tamil Nadu's mounting debt and cash crunch, ahead of the state assembly elections.

Sasikala accused both parties of saddling every unborn child with a ₹2 lakh debt through freebie culture. She questioned DMK's ₹8,000 home appliances under the Illatharasi scheme and AIADMK's past promises of refrigerators and ₹10,000 per ration card.

She highlighted 6 lakh unfilled retirement vacancies in government departments due to fund shortages, blaming DMK's administrative failures. The remarks, reported by The Hindu, echo growing pre-election concerns over the state's fiscal health, projected to exceed ₹10 lakh crore debt by 2026-27.
