Exclusive Mewtwo creatures from a recent Pokémon Go event in Times Square are appearing on eBay with asking prices reaching 10000 dollars. The creatures feature a special background and perfect stats after an invitation-only raid held earlier this month.
Scopely invited around 2000 players to the New York City location for the game's 10th anniversary. Participants battled and captured Mewtwo during a raid that recreated the original announcement trailer.
The resulting creatures include an exclusive Times Square background and rare perfect Hundo stats. Listings for these Mewtwo have since appeared on eBay, with most priced around 5000 dollars and some reaching 10000 dollars.
One attendee, Brendan Blyth, posted a listing before removing it and apologizing. He stated the in-person event was a great experience and that Scopely ran it perfectly.
The sales have drawn criticism for favoring select participants over the game's global community. Pokémon Go launched in 2016 and is now operated by Scopely following its acquisition of Niantic last year.
