Sverigedemokraternas subsidiary ADBO Sverige AB purchased 80,000 copies of Jimmie Åkesson's book ”Det moderna folkhemmet” from his publishing house Asp & Lycke in 2018. The deal generated 1.7 million kronor in revenue for the publisher.
The investigation by TV4’s Kalla fakta shows that tax funds via the party thereby ended up with the party leader’s private company. Professor Olle Lundin described it as a textbook example of corruption. Jimmie Åkesson confirmed that the party had bought a large print run but called the program a concoction with invented figures. He stressed that it involved party money, not tax funds. Kalla fakta’s editorial chief Jonas Alsgren said they had provided SD with background material a month in advance without receiving a response. He dismissed Åkesson’s criticism as an attempt to shift focus from the investigation.
