Speculation continues around Serena Williams potentially entering the Wimbledon singles draw with one wildcard still available. Doubles specialist Kim Clijsters offered her assessment of the 44-year-old's prospects during a recent podcast appearance.
The All-England Club awarded Serena Williams and Venus Williams a doubles wildcard for this year's Wimbledon on June 17. Serena has not requested a singles entry and has not confirmed any plans to compete in that format.
Kim Clijsters said on the “Love All” podcast that a singles comeback at the Grand Slam might be premature. “Singles is still a very different game than what she’s done so far,” Clijsters said, adding that movement would be the biggest challenge.
Serena responded to questions after her Berlin Open doubles match on June 16. She told reporters she did not know whether she was ready for singles and noted that she would need more training.
She is scheduled to play doubles at Wimbledon. Any decision on singles remains hers to make in the coming days.
