The Shiromani Akali Dal announced plans on July 8 to screen the film Satluj throughout Punjab after its removal from ZEE5. Actor Geetika Vidya Ohlyan shared an emotional note about the project on July 9.
The film Satluj, previously titled Punjab ‘95, premiered uncut on ZEE5 on July 3 before being removed within 48 hours. It portrays the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra during the militancy period in Punjab from the mid-1980s to early 1990s.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal directed party workers to stream the film in every village, town and city in Punjab. He stated the goal is for youth to learn about the repression under then-Congress governments.
The Aam Aadmi Party accused SAD of siding with those responsible for injustices against Punjab and the Sikh community. AAP spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal cited a claim by Paramjit Kaur Khalra that Sukhbir Badal sought a central government ban on the film.
Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, who plays Paramjit in the film, posted that the team had carried Satluj in their hearts for four years.
