An armed attack at a Christmas fair in La Florida, in the Metropolitan Region, left two people dead on Tuesday afternoon. The victims were identified as Orlando Mena Bravo, 83, and Johanna Flores Olivares, 46, who were stall attendants at the site. A third person was shot but remains stable.
The incident took place after 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Avenida México and Gerónimo de Alderete, during the operation of the Christmas fair in La Florida commune. According to preliminary information from the Investigations Police (PDI), an unknown subject on a motorcycle approached from behind one of the stalls and fired multiple shots, about ten, at the victims. Both died later at La Florida Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Witness videos circulating on social media show the attacker shooting from behind before fleeing. At the scene, experts collected over 20 spent casings, suggesting the use of a semi-automatic or possibly automatic firearm, pending confirmation by the PDI's Central Criminalistics Laboratory (Lacrim).
The third injured person, Neibis López Madero, 37, Colombian, received care at the Primary Urgent Care Service (SAPU) for gunshot wounds, with no vital risk. Johanna Flores Olivares had prior detentions for drug law violations, per preliminary records.
The PDI's Metropolitan Homicide Brigade, under the Organized Crime and Homicides Prosecutor's Office (ECOH), is investigating. One main line points to a possible settling of scores, though no hypothesis is ruled out as more videos are reviewed to determine if the attacker acted alone or with accomplices, and the escape method used, possibly a motorcycle.
Officers from La Florida's 61st Carabineros Station initially responded to an alert about people injured by gunshots.
