Shudder to Think release first new songs in nearly 30 years

Washington, D.C.-based post-hardcore band Shudder to Think have shared their first new music in almost three decades with the songs 'Thirst Walk' and 'Playback.' The tracks are available digitally and as a 7-inch vinyl single via Dischord Records. This release coincides with the band's ongoing U.S. tour, their first in 17 years.

Release Details

Shudder to Think, a post-hardcore quintet from Washington, D.C., marked a significant return by releasing two new songs, 'Thirst Walk' and 'Playback,' on November 6, 2025. These tracks represent the band's first original material since their 1997 album 50,000 B.C.. The songs are being issued as a 7-inch vinyl single through Dischord Records and are also available digitally.

Lead vocalist Craig Wedren commented on the creative process in a press statement: “The new songs are the first of a trove of new songs we’re working on together, all of which feel very much like Shudder to Think. To keep things playful and raw-ish, we have been doing almost everything ourselves in my backyard studio (Pink Ape Studios, Los Angeles) with some remote overdubbing from our various home studios. What you hear is us, together, hard at play!”

The band previously contributed original scores to films like High Art, First Love, Last Rites, and Velvet Goldmine, as well as releasing a live album after their last studio effort.

Band Lineup and Tour

The current lineup mirrors the one from their 1998 major-label debut Pony Express Record: Wedren on lead vocals and guitar, Jherek Bischoff on bass, Nathan Larson and Clint Walsh on guitars, and Adam Wade on drums. This configuration is supporting their first tour in 17 years, with four remaining U.S. shows scheduled in Portland, Oregon; Seattle; San Francisco; and Los Angeles, starting soon after the release announcement.
