Sony removes over 1,000 shovelware games from PlayStation Store

Sony has deleted more than 1,000 low-quality game entries from the PlayStation Store, primarily from publishers Nostra Games and CGI Lab. This marks the second major cleanup this year, following the removal of around 1,200 titles from ThiGames in January. The deletions target games released in multiple regional variants to appeal to trophy hunters.

Shopping on the PlayStation Store has become slightly less cluttered after Sony removed over 1,000 shovelware games from two companies, as reported by MP1st and Delisted Games. These titles overwhelmed 'Coming Soon' and 'New Release' sections, making it harder for players to find notable indie or major releases amid low-effort $2.99 games. Sony's action addresses a common issue across console stores, where such content frustrates users and pushes them toward curated or sponsored selections. The removed games, totaling closer to 100 unique titles due to 'stacks' of regional variants, focused on easy trophies to enable quick Platinum achievements. This follows January's delisting of about 1,200 games from ThiGames, including titles like The Jumping Orange with 61 trophies. CGI Lab (also known as Play Lab) had titles such as Veins of Darkness, Platform 0, and Game & Console Supermarket: Business Simulator removed. Nostra Games, based in Cyprus, saw over 700 delistings. On its Discord, Nostra stated: 'Unfortunately, PlayStation Store has removed our games, and we’re unable to provide an exact reason because it wasn’t shared with us either…This was just as unexpected for us as it was for you, as we had planned to continue releasing games in the coming years, and you’ve already seen some of them, but unfortunately, this is how things turned out. Thank you for your questions, but unfortunately, we are in the dark as well.' Some speculate Nostra bundled stacks for sale, potentially prompting the action. Many affected games, like Nostra's Trading Card Shop Simulator (a knock-off of TCG Card Shop Simulator), remain available on Steam, Xbox Store, and Nintendo eShop.
