Sony unveils Hyperpop collection for PlayStation 5

Sony has introduced a vibrant new Hyperpop Collection for its PlayStation 5 consoles, featuring colorful DualSense controllers and console covers. The designs incorporate neon gradients inspired by gaming setups. Preorders start on January 16, with a launch planned for March 12.

Sony announced the Hyperpop Collection on Wednesday, targeting gamers with eye-catching accessories for the PlayStation 5. The collection includes newly designed DualSense wireless controllers and matching console covers in three bold colors: Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue.

These items feature a gradient effect that transitions from black to bright neon hues, enhancing their visual appeal. Sae Kobayashi, a member of Sony's Color, Material and Finish design team, described the design in a press release: "A seamless gradient wraps around the front and back of the DualSense, finished in a high-gloss coat that makes the colors pop more than ever." He added that the console covers receive a similar treatment, with "a subtle hint of transparency."

The inspiration behind the palette comes from modern gaming aesthetics. Leo Cardoso, another team member, explained: the colors were "inspired by the glow of the RGB lights of your impressive gaming setups."

This release builds on Sony's efforts to personalize PS5 hardware, offering players options to customize their setups beyond standard black. Preorders for the Hyperpop Collection open on January 16, allowing early access ahead of the official March 12 launch. The accessories aim to blend functionality with striking style, potentially appealing to a younger demographic drawn to vibrant, tech-forward designs.
