Spider-Man: Brand New Day wraps filming with director's thanks to Tom Holland

Director Destin Daniel Cretton announced that filming has wrapped on the upcoming Marvel film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. Cretton expressed deep gratitude to Holland for his leadership and work ethic in an Instagram post. The movie features a notable ensemble cast and is set for release on July 31.

Filming on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland's web-slinger, concluded as announced by director Destin Daniel Cretton on December 19, 2025. Cretton praised Holland specifically, stating, “kind, generous leadership on and off screen, for your relentless work ethic, your fearless performances, and for your friendship.”

The story picks up after the events of 2021's No Way Home, where Peter Parker must navigate a world that has forgotten his identity, including friends MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon). The cast includes Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colon-Zayas, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role.

In a broader Instagram message, Cretton reflected, “I’m so deeply grateful for the people who walked with me through the biggest, most rewarding film I’ve ever been a part of.” He thanked the cast for bringing life to the characters, the crew for their creativity, his wife Nikki Chapman for family support, and his children for grounding him. Brie Larson, who collaborated with Cretton on 2013's Short Term 12, commented, “Congrats!!!! Love you bro!” and “Hugs to my spidey too!!!”

This project marks Cretton's second Marvel Cinematic Universe film after 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He had been attached to the now-scrapped Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before departing in November 2023 and serves as co-creator on the upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, premiering January 27.

Anticipation builds alongside the recent teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, revealing Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers. Holland's previous Spider-Man films have seen rising success: Homecoming earned $880 million in 2017, Far From Home $1.13 billion in 2019, and No Way Home $1.9 billion in 2021.
