SPIE and Tesla ink three-year framework deal for Megapack battery storage across Europe

France-based engineering firm SPIE has signed a three-year framework agreement with Tesla to standardize deployment of Megapack battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Europe, building on projects in the Netherlands, France, and Belgium, and expanding into Poland and Germany. Highlights include the $366 million, 1.4 GWh Mufasa facility in the Netherlands.

Pan-European engineering company SPIE announced a renewable three-year framework agreement with Tesla in December 2025 to implement BESS projects across Europe using Tesla's Megapack technology. The deal, applicable to all SPIE subsidiaries with BESS expertise, standardizes legal, operational, and contractual conditions, with an option to renew. It covers engineering, balance of plant, high- and medium-voltage connections, security, lighting, fire detection, surveillance, and commissioning services.

The partnership expands existing collaborations. In the Netherlands, the companies are delivering the Mufasa BESS in Vlissingen—a $366 million, 1.4 GWh facility with 372 Megapacks that will be the country's largest, aiding grid flexibility and renewable integration. In France's Eure department, a 100 MW/200 MWh project broke ground in September 2025, with commissioning by end-2026, including a 90 kV substation. In Belgium's Ville-sur-Haine, a 50 MW/200 MWh system with 53 Megapacks is underway.

The agreement accelerates scaling, cuts negotiation times, and opens new markets like Poland and Germany, leveraging SPIE's expertise. Tobias Zaers, SPIE's Business Development and Marketing Director, said: "This agreement reflects the confidence that a key global player in the energy sector has placed in SPIE's technical skills and pan-European organisation. We have developed collaboration between our subsidiaries with the systematic sharing of experiences, which allows us to capitalise on our national expertise. By combining our industrial know-how, local presence and collective intelligence, we are actively contributing to building a more sustainable energy model that is based on reliability, performance and efficiency."

Tesla's latest Megapack generation, unveiled at RE+ in Las Vegas in September 2025, supports global grid stability efforts. SPIE, a leader in multi-technical services for energy, posted 2024 revenues of USD 9.9 billion and EBITA of USD 712 million.
