The Pittsburgh Steelers are considering whether to extend defensive lineman Keeanu Benton. A beat writer has raised concerns that moving on from the young player could hinder future plans.
Keeanu Benton, a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has started immediately and accumulated nearly 2,000 career snaps. Last season he recorded career highs with 746 snaps, 5.5 sacks and 6 tackles for loss.
Mike DeFabo argued on The Yinziders that Benton makes sense to retain as part of the defensive line after Cam Heyward. He noted that successful teams maintain depth at the position and that the Steelers have already invested in other extensions.
The team added Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black in last year's draft. DeFabo warned that without Benton the group risks losing continuity once Heyward retires.
