Stellantis announced on Tuesday a project for an affordable small electric car called « E-car » and scheduled for 2028. This future vehicle could take the name and lines of the iconic Citroën 2CV.
The Franco-Italian-American group declined to make any official comment. According to information confirmed by Le Figaro and Les Échos, the « E-car » would be sold for around 15,000 euros excluding the ecological bonus and assembled in Pomigliano d’Arco near Naples in Italy.
The concept car could be unveiled as early as Thursday during the presentation of Stellantis’s strategic plan in Detroit. The goal is to relaunch sales in the affordable small car segment in Europe.
Owners of classic 2CVs express mixed reactions. Anne, owner of a 1990 model, said: « It’s my childhood madeleine de Proust. We won’t find the soul of these cars again. » She nevertheless acknowledges the appeal of a modern version for new generations.
