Stockholm city has passed one million residents according to new figures from SCB. The threshold was crossed in May with exactly 1 000 374 inhabitants.
Statistician Ellen Forsberg confirmed the figures on Tuesday morning. She said the city had waited for the milestone for over ten years after a 2018 forecast that pointed to 2022.
The population is expected to keep growing but at a slower pace than previous calculations. By 2035 the projection shows an increase of 56 500 residents which is 8 500 fewer than last year's estimate.
The district Enskede-Årsta-Vantör is forecast to see the largest rise at 13 percent by 2035. Another district is meanwhile projected to lose residents and drop from second place.
